The only way to protect our cats, dogs and other pets from parasites and parasitic diseases, internal parasites and external parasites is through the use of anti-parasitic applications. These applications are very important in killing existing parasites and preventing the formation of new parasites. Regardless of internal or external parasites, all parasites are very dangerous for our pets. Parasites, which can cause direct diseases as well as disease carriers, are dangerous for us as well as for our pets and cause many zoonotic (transmitted from animal to human) diseases and infections.

There are different forms of anti-parasitic medications such as tablets, injections, syrups and drops. It would be appropriate to administer internal parasite drugs to our pet(s) when they are one and a half months old, and for external parasite drugs, when they reach the appropriate weight. These anti-parasitic applications should be repeated every two months or so, throughout their lives.

Internal parasite drugs; This targets parasites such as hookworms, worms, and liver flukes. External parasite drugs are target external parasites such as fleas, ticks and lice.

So, how do internal and external parasites occur in our pets at home?

• Being in the street or sharing the same environment with other animals,
• Hunting and eating creatures such as insects and flies that enter the house,
• Being in contact with the droppings of birds, like on our balconies;
• Being in contact with the eggs of internal and external parasites carried by our shoes when we walk outside,
• From our loving and embracing stray animals, results in them contacting our clothes,
• Due to not regularly removing internal parasite larvae carried by external parasites in our pets, whose external parasites are not regularly exterminated,
• Internal and external parasites occur for many reasons, such as the consumption of raw animal food.

What are the things we should do after contact with our pets who are not treated for internal and external parasites as they do not know about it?

First of all, if we have any doubt, it is important to limite embracing and contact as much as possible. Especially as the immune system of our children against these parasites are not as strong as ours. It is much more important to protect children in this regard.

• We must thoroughly clean out hands after contact with animals, as parasitic eggs are found on almost all hairs as a result of animals cleaning themselves with their tongues.
• After contact with animals, we should not put our hands near our mouth or face without washing our hands. We also shouldn’t eat any thing until our hands have been properly cleaned.
• Attention should be paid to contact with animals that eat unprocessed, raw meat, salamis and sausages. Zoonotic (animal-to-human) parasitic diseases such as toxoplasma, echinococcus granulosus, taenia saginata and giardia are the most common types of parasites that can be transmitted from such animals to humans.
• We must not come in contacted with the feces of cats and dogs, nor with substances which they defecate in, such as soil, sand, mud, grass etc.

Many similar measures; This plays a big role in protecting you and your pets from internal and external parasites through keeping the risks to an absolute minimum.
